My Easter Message

The Stone was Rolled away Matthew 27:57-28:1-8 Having crucified Jesus the religious Jews, their leaders and the Roman soldiers were awaiting his dismal demise. They had seen many a criminal crucified and hopelessly give way to death. The rowdy boisterous crowd who cried out saying crucify him, crucify him least expected what was about to happen. They heard the last six sayings of Jesus on the cross but did not know what was going to be next; “Father forgive them for they know not know what they do”. (Luke 23:34) “Assuredly I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise”. (Luke 23:43) “My God, my God why have you forsaken me”. (Matt. 27:46) Woman, Behold your son, behold your mother”. (John19: 26, 27) “I thirst”. (John 19:28) “Father...

Prayer Opens the Heavens, Part 4

FERVENT  The beloved Apostle talks about the need for prayer to be fervent. I wonder if we as the Church have lost the art of being fervent in the things of the Spirit. To be fervent is to be enthusiastic. The most poorly attended meetings in many Churches today is the prayer meeting. A few people turn up for prayer whenever there  is a call to pray. Prayer is deemed to be something relegated to a few people who are least occupied. We find older people mostly at our prayer gatherings as younger, abled bodied people have “stuff” to take care of. Due to a lack of interest in prayer, the Pastor needs to almost use catchy words or slogans or use gimmicks to lure people into prayer. It is time for the Church to be passionate, high spirited, and zealous...

Prayer Opens the Heavens, Part 3

BEING EFFECTIVE   James talks about effective prayer which opens the heavens. Our prayers should be efficacious, causing peoples lives to be impacted and changed. Our half hearted brief prayers, short prayers or quick prayers will not make any difference in the heavenly places. They have to be adequate, sufficient and capable of bringing heaven down upon earth. Church aren’t we pursuant of being competent in every department of our ministry. Should we then be negligent of our emphasis on prayer. May we learn and be challenged to be competent in prayer. Oh may our prayers and prayer gatherings be effective. I remember when I returned home from the Philippines to Sri Lanka to start a Church plantain movement in 1981. I had only two Singapore dollars to call...

Prayer Opens the Heavens, Part 2

CONFESSION –  we need to search our hearts, confess our sins and then approach him in prayer. Psalm 66:18 says ” If I regard iniquity in my heart , the Lord will not hear.” If we cover our sins we will never be able to draw God’s favorable attention. We must confess our sins, renounce them and seek God’s forgiveness if we are to be heard of the Lord. Proverbs 28:13 says,” He who covers his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy.” Therefore the prayers that open up the heavens for us are prayers prayed out of a broken and a contrite spirit. A repentant heart will be at the receiving end of God’s forgiveness, cleansing and mercy. Two passages of scripture comes forcefully...
